The History of the Tamworth Motorcycle Club...........
The Tamworth Motorcycle Club was established over 50
years ago by a group of
local motorcycle enthusiasts headed by Harry Pyne.
The club has had a number of homes throughout the years including Nemingha,
just opposite the Turf Farm and more recently Moore Creek Speedway, which
was our home for over 20 years.
The club is now driven by our enthusiastic President, Paul Slade who has
been instrumental with a small band of loyal club members in establishing
the present facility at Oakburn Park.
The granite based speedway/dirt track at Oakburn was only opened late last
year with a round of the Golden Helmet Speedway Series which was a huge
success.
Since then we have run many Open and Club meetings with riders from all over
the eastern states travelling to our venue.
The track has been declared by many of these riders as "one of the best
tracks in the country".
Oakburn Park motorcycle facility is very much in its infancy and it will
take many more years for it to develop to what we forsee to be the future of
motorcyle racing in the Tamworth area.
Our current plans for our present speedway/dirt track include a much updated
canteen and toilet/shower facility and upgrade score tower and establishing
the small trees that have been planted along the spectator mounds.
A motor X track has now passed the planning stage and is about 1 month away
from licensing and opening for racing.
This track facility will run immediately above the speedway/dirt track and
will utilise the existing pit facility.
This track will enable the club to cater for another facet of motorcycle
racing in the Tamworth area, but we do need people with an interest in this
type of racing to join the club to help improve and maintain this part of
our club facility.
The club is growing in its facilities and gradually members, but we need to
attract more members all the time.
The club has regular race meetings each month presently the 3rd Sunday of
each month.
We also hold a regular Practice Day on the 1st Sunday of each month.
The club offers a facility to motorcycle riders both Junior and Senior in
this area to ride in a controlled and legal environment without fear of
problems with police or insurance issues raising thier heads.
The club has classes for all types of bikes from Old Clunkers, Pee-Wees,
Quads and everything in between.
The club offers a friendly place for young people to improve their riding
skills and may gain some instruction from older or at least more skilled
riders.
If you wish to ask any questions regarding joining the club please email the

last couple of years with sponsorship or loan of equipment etc.
Please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone.
